Sales in the Renewable Energy category are by far the largest category of sustainable revenue in the Corporate Knights Global Sustainable Economy Intelligence database, with nearly USD 5 trillion recorded so far for the period 2019-2023. This category includes solar and wind energy, batteries and energy storage, and the transmission and distribution of renewable energy. The Green Product category accounts for an additional USD 2.7 trillion and is comprised of various products (consumer products, building materials, food, clothing, etc.) that have earned one of the ecocertifications that are accepted by our rigorous screening process. Three other categories are in the $2 trillion range, including zero emission vehicles, sustainability-enabling IT and telecommunications infrastructure, and green primary production (e.g. green steel). These top five categories comprise 86% of the $16 trillion in sustainable revenue we have so far documented in over 40,000 records covering thousands of companies.
